More than 2 kg of these nuts are needed for every liter of Brazil nut oil. Its trees are among the tallest and oldest in the Amazon rainforest. They can reach a height of 50m and live up to one thousand years. Every year, from December to March, collectors in northern Bolivia go deep into the Amazon and collect the coconut-like fruits that have fallen to the ground. They then open them with a machete and carefully break the shell of each seed.
Because Brazil nuts only grow in the wild, by eating this sustainable food you are directly contributing to the protection of the forest. Instead of being burned by cattle ranchers or soy farmers, virgin nature generates a decent income for up to 80% of the region's population. The effect is thus the opposite of, for example, palm oil, for which the forests are burned.

Due to the content of important elements, fatty acids, vitamins and selenium, Brazil nut oil is excellent for skin and hair. It is great as an ingredient in skin oils, shampoos, creams or soaps. The locals told us about its traditional use to treat eczema. It is also healthy and useful in the kitchen. In the Amazon, manioc and plantains are fried in it.
